The Bulletin contains several examples of the use of computer programs for the prediction of the unsteady hydrographs resulting from a dam failure and describes the calibration of these programs using data collected from the results of actual failures. The most commonly-used programs are described as are the advantages provided by some excellent but lesser-known programs. Parameters which must be assumed in the computation of unsteady dam-break flood hydrographs are defined and ranges for their values are recommended. The information provided should be very useful to engineers having responsibility for the assessment of dam safety.
