The report " Remote Sensing for Reservoir Water Quality Management " was prepared by the Japan Commission on Large Dams (JCOLD) with the assistance of the United States Society on Dams (USSD), in response to a need identifin the ICOLD Committee on the Environment. The purpose of the report is to document the results of a three-year study carried out in Japan, which goals were to evaluate the use of remote sensing as a combined tool for identifying the water quality parameters in a reservoir and pertinent watershed characteristics for use in the management of water quality in reservoirs and releases from dams and managing the watershed of the impoundment. Water quality from large lakes, Lake Biwa and Lake Kasumigaura, were the subjects of studies with remote sensing.
