This Bulletin considers specifically:
• Rupturing and creeping tectonic events which might affect dams and storages.
• The related investigation methodology.
• Evaluating the effects of fault breaks and crustal mobility on dams.
• Effects of active tectonic features on selection of sites and types of dams.
• Defining the engineering strategy when facing the active tectonic rupturing and creeping movements.
This Bulletin was drafted by A. Bozovic and Prof. Dr. M. Markovic and finalized after comprehensive discussion and reviewing in the Committee on Seismic Aspects of Dam Design. Its findings and conclusions are supported by a set of case histories given in a special chapter. It is considered that this Bulletin shall be a substantial help in evaluating the crustal mobility phenomena (fault breaks and creep movements) which might affect existing and future dam structures.
